Well on Wed night Thurs. morning some you know what stole my laptop out of my truck while parked in front of my house . The browser was set to come here first and auto log on. If you see any messages from me that seem out of place that is because it may not be me. I will still visit when I can untill I can afford a replacement.
I believe they do IP logging here. Therefore, you should be able to get the IP address he is using from them (assuming they have or can get it). Then you become like the RIAA and order his ISP to release his information to you (or rather the police). Then hopefully you get your laptop back and he gets charges filed against him.
Sorry to hear about the laptop. If you know the vendor & serial# or service tag #(Dell) you can call the vendor & report it stolen. Ya never know, but the turd ball who stole it, a new "buyer", may call in for service or help with a problem & when given a valid serial#, (only way to get service from hp/compaq, dell, & gateway, I know of), they will try to get as much info they can & try to get the laptop sent back to the depot for "warranty/no charge" service. The company I worked for got about 1 in 10 back like this over the years. Good luck!
Contact Mil1ion and have him change your password...or change it yourself in your user CP. Make it one that would be nearly impossible to figure out like
Hey, how do we know you're who you say you are?!? You could be the thief.....
Yeah, tell us something so we know it's you. What's the firing order of the 351 engine?
Just kidding. That's very unfortunate. Hopefully you do have the serial number written down someplace and a copy of the receipt because it would be very helpful if it is every recovered or shows up at a pawn shop.
Thanks for the support. I have called the HP and reported it and I am personally checking the pawnshops. I buy alot of tools there and know most of the people. My insurance will cover it but probably screw me in the end so... I may not even file it.
Sorry about your loss.(Everytime I hear of personal thefts from vehicles I'm intrigued and was wondering if the truck was locked and if the alarm was on?)
Along with the pawn shops, watch ebay for your local sellers.
If ya wanna play detective, you could try baiting the same culprit and place an empty laptop bag in your truck and park it in front of your house again. Then just stake it out and watch it for awhile. If it's a local thief then I would bet money that they would come back again after the heat dies down. If they fall for it again, get it on video and follow them.
Go to Wally World and buy a cheap laptop case. Stop at a roadside stand and pick-up the biggest, meanest blue crab you can find. Stick him in the computer case. When they open it up while driving down the road it'll be very interesting. Maybe the the Fire Dept will scrape him off a tree!

Yes the truck was locked and it does not have an alarm. but I have found that with power locks and the way they are positioned on the door it is VERY easy to hanger the door and just push the lock to open (I have locked my keys in the truck and used this mothod to get in, it took about 3 mionutes).
As for the idea of baiting... in our model homes we have fake "props" that look just like a laptop... maybe thats a good idea.
