Well fixing a bad "repair" by a previous owner, we had to drill the top off of the torx screw in the center to get the upper plenium off. While my brother in law as operating the drill he put a couple of minor gouges in the intake, but the more serious one is area where the afflicted bolt seats. It was drilled about a third of the thickness through from the inside edge of the bolt hole to the outside edge of the upper intake.
Will this gouge give me any problems with leaking, improper torqueing excetera? The lower mating surface appears to be purfect. Also, since the actual intake was cross threaded do you think it can still be safely used and if needed would it be possible to rethread it slightly larger?
The initial reason for the repair was for a major vacuum leak that I believe was caused by the fact that the torx bolt was cross threaded, stripped and about a quarter inch out above the intake. I do have a donor truck with matching engine but I don't want canabilize it yet as it is a well running motor and I don't think my motor has any "major" problems yet.
Well, i couldn't find an upper at the moment, but well looking at the intake, I discovered that when the bolt was cross threaded, they cracked the intake in three places.
The good news is I bought one on ebay for 38.00 after shipping.
