i want to make my 300 roar i have a flowmaster 40 series and a cherry bomb what would sound better of the two.also if i took my muffler off and ran it straight piped would this hurt my engine at all or make it run like crap??
anybody have any ideas
I have heard plenty of Fords with flowmasters and they sound just fine. I have Flo~Pro (yes i know they aren't flowmaster) duals with 2.25" pipes all the way back on mine and it sounds great. Don't know if it matters, but i also don't have a catalytic.

Went to the muffler shop and had a flowmaster 40 series welded on today. When they started the truck i did not notice any diffrence in the tone or the noise level at all. When it is rev'd up it is a little louder but not what i expected or wanted. So i dont know what i will do to make it loud my 300 6 needs to be heard so i have to do something. I guess next i will try a cherry bomb and if that does not do it i will probably run it strait.I want to thank everyone for their opinion and advice i really appreciate it everyone likes something diffrent in a muffler and i like loud!!! again thanks
I am looking for better mpg and zip and don't care one way or the other about noise but have noticed the same result with a straight thru muffler change. I put on a 2.5 magnaflow and it is almost as quiet as stock. I have the same muffler in 3" on my Dodge and it is not quiet so I know it is not the muffler. Something"s not right here? My buddy put fake duels thru glasspaks on and it is noticeably louder.
Anybody got a suggestion?
If its loud and deep you want go to a midas shop and have them weld in a ravin z-class muffler, ive got the z-55 and it sounds nice. I still need to get headers and a hi-flow cat though.
Edit: they have a website too... just go to google and search ravin exhaust should be first one or two results.

Reason: forgot somthin
I just ran 2.5 inch pipe with a 45degree elbow off the cats and a stainless steel tip
Has a nice mello sound a idle but sound great when you hop on it.
getting about 1-2 mpg better with this setup.
I cut off my muffler section and replaced it with a staight pipe. It is quiet at idle, but has a noticable tone when I'm on the gas. I like the deep sound. Almost sounds like a diesel at low RPM's. Seems to be loudest at around 2000 RPM's, and queits down past that. Truck runs fine with no muffler. Very cheap modification with good results for me.

if you like anything to be quite at an idle and loud when given gas rul 2.5 in to the back of the cab then run 3in out to the back side of the bed to exit at the corner with the biggest tip you can find
ive heard this setup and it is earpeircing loud but you still get a deep cakle when you let out
I got 2" exhaust off a stock manifold with a flow-tech purple horney glasspack and its loud when I stand on it, has a nice growl at idle, got better fuel economy, and noticably more umph. I agree with the guys that are saying flowmasters sound like crap. A friend of mine who drives a dodge has a flowmaster on his truck and it sounds like it's dying all the time. And he has it on a brand new 360. So my opinion.....go glass.
