I got this 85 F-150 pick-up from my boyfriend's dad for free. It runs and all besides the battery, but, the problem is that there's rust everywhere and I need to do a little fixing up. I need a TAIL GATE. My botton is all rusted and the latch is broken so it's a pain to open and close. Also, a HOOD. I wasn't sure if I should go with the cow hood yet or just stick the same. They are my two biggest problems right now, and I need a little help. Also, if anyone should have a clue on how to get the moldings off the sides without riping out the sides with it... let me know. Thanks a bunch.
Ash
As far as the hood, you can get them cheap used, tailgates can be had the same way. If you want the cowl hood and have the cash, go ahead and get it now. Myself, I would stay stock and get it going and some of the other stuff first, and worry about the dress up later, but that's me. The moldings are held on with plastic clips, and there are tools available to help remove them without destroyng the molding or the truck. Most parts shops have them.
thanks a lot... im kinda new to this whole truck thing... ive been working on a 87 monte carlo ss aerocoupe for some time now and i just got handed the truck... i need the rear slider window... and i found on for 10 bucks... but i want something that doesnt have stickers all over it yet.
You can generally get a new one for $50, tinted and all, might be another $10 for tint. Feel free to ask, there are plenty here that will be more than happy to help.
A small note about the hood/cowl.... If you can't get a junkyard hood that's the same color as your truck, getting the cowl from the same truck will make the hood look better, almost as if it belongs. Also, it's a lot easier to change the cowl with the hood off anyway...
As far as I know, the side moldings on the 1985 are held with adhesive, not clips.... At least on an 85 that I had before they were. I just started on an end, and pulled them off a section at a time...
