Wow. If an 18-month membership qualifies you as a "new member," I guess I'm still in diapers!
I'd say that the anonymity that IS allowed here is a large contributor to the problem, but from what I've seen in the short time I've been here, the mods/admins seem to make short work of the problem posts. I also participate in several woodworking forums, two of which require REAL first and last names. Because of that requirement, very little moderating is necessary, although off-topic posts can get out of hand once in a while.
i noticed a few of new members are rather rude also.
i've always looked at it in a way that keeps me in line. whenever i get on a forums page...i think of the avatar and act like im actually talking to a person...since we're all talking to one another on here. i figure its easiest to talk like your really talking to another person...and im not one to act rude to somebody else i dont know "real" well, therefor i dont act rude on a forum.
anyway...compared to alot of people i am a "newbie" on this site. the way its goin im gunna be on this site a LOOONG time in order to become a "non-newbie."
I try not to be rude but I can be rather sarcastic.
I do post on another forum but in the last year I havn't posted over there very much.
My Doc. says it is a personality change and put me on meds.( Depression)
As long as there's no threat of a closed fist exiting your screen and making contact with your nose, people will continue to be rude on the Internet. Like Mil1ion said, they're pleas for attention. I try my best to ignore them, but when it gets REALLY personal or someone starts calling me a liar, I'm afraid they do get my goat.
I don't understand why people would come to a site like this to act like jerks. I guess they dont have a life, other than trolling. In the short time i have been on this site, I have gotten plans for a shed I am starting this weekend (Thanks, Mr. JB Sooner), finally figured out the problem with my travel trailer wiring, and fixed misc. problems with my F150 and Explorer. They rude dudes are ruining there own opportunity to gain valuable free information and advice.
There are a couple of ways to deal with these problems. You can use the report posts function, that red triangle with an "!" mark in it or you can set your system to "ignore" another user.
unfortunatley, I have no desire to ignore or report others.... i was hoping they would see this, and maybe realize that it doesn't matter if you don't know the person.
I'm new too, and love this place. I've never run into a rude user, maybe once got a reply like, "uh, maybe you don't know what you're talking about" kind of post, but phrased politely. Once I posted a 'for sale' thing in the Bronco forum, and even the warning I got was polite. Thanks to all of the users who respond and keep this site alive, all of the moderators who keep it from getting "ill", and all of the people who've read/responded. I wish my particular Avatar was a guage of how much money I saved by not taking my Bronco to a mechanic. Thanks for everything guys.
I lurked in the shadows for a few weeks on FTE before making my first post trying to find out all the info I could on my new F-150. Trust me, this forum is pretty tame (thanks Moderators) compared to others that I have been to. That's why I stay here
Hummm...since I work a rotating shift, maybe I could offer my services as an Moderator to cover the off hour stuff

I think it's inevitable to have a "wide" array of personalities on a forum this large. In fact, it's probably a good cross section of the general public. Just owning a Ford truck doesn't assure that a person is "congenial". I look at the forum like it's a big social club, I'd rather "blend" in than stick out like a sore thumb. I have benefited in MANY ways since being a member!
