How many 5.4L's

I was thinking about the total of 5.4L engines that have been sold since Ford came up with the concept of modular engines. What would be the percentage of these engines that have trouble. I think this has to be very small amount.
Personally I have owned two of them and never had even two cents worth of trouble. Pulled trailers, went on long trips over 1000 miles and just haven't had any problems.
Reliability has to be the word, the 2004 pickup with the 300hp has about the same torque as the old 460's have.
I think a lot of problems come when people try to modify or chip engines that were not authorized by Ford.
I know everyone has a better idea, but how many spend the money that Ford does for their Engineering staff.
If your looking for more performance than Ford designs into the engines and you change the spec's and add unathorized parts. If you have problems its your on fault.
I read on these threads that people change their chips back to OEM chips when they take their trucks in for service. IMHO that is not very honest and you have no excuse if Ford catches you and voids your warranty.
I just thought someone needs to say it like it is and remember Fords are great trucks just like they are made.

Gotta go

An aftermarket chip will only void the warranty if it directly causes the failure of the bad part.
These are tough engines. Mine now has 40,000 miles on it and the engine itself has never caused any problems. It pulls 6,500lbs as good as 330ci can. It could use more torque below 2500rpm, but it looks like Ford fixed that in 2004 with the variable can timing and butterflies in the intake manifold to increase low speed airflow in the intake.

Mine now has over 90K on it and has been chipped since about 25K. One mechanic told me that chipping it might actually prolong engine life. It also helpes the tranny since the shifts are faster.
