installing camshaft

I'm going to be installing a CompCam camshaft in the '86 F-150 EFI 302 sometime in the next few weeks (gotta wait for a paycheck). Are there any tips on how I should go about disassembly/assembly? Anything to watch out for? This is going to be my first time tearing into an engine, so it's gonna be a slow process. I'll post more questions in this thread when I think of them. I'm looking forward to doing this work.

Start at the front of the motor and most important, remember what bolt, hose, goes where when you disassemble. Watch when you pull the distributor that you don't drop the oil pump drive. Might be a good idea to have someone handy who knows what to do. Most of all.... Patience, take your time and do one step at a time. A good manual comes in handy also.

you will need to pull the radiator to this will give you enough room to remove the cam with it in the truck. get a cam removal tool to. its a handle that screws into the end and helps alot. make sure you lube up the new cam alot with the stuff they gave you. what are the specs for this cam, lobe seperation is very important since your efi cant throw just any cam in there ya know.

I hope the cam you have chosen is EFI compatible. Not sure how much, if any, cam the stock system will tolerate. Make sure you mark every hose and wire so there won't be any guessing on reassembly. Be careful when disconnecting all those 18 year old, dry rotted hoses and wires too.

CompCam 31-255-5. I called them and that was all that was available for my stock engine.
