Has anyone else saw the ranger thunderbolt,if so what do you think of it. I stopped at the local dealer today and thought it looked great. Just wish it had a v-8 instead of the 4.0 sohc. If you haven't saw it the link below will give you an idea of what it's like.
I like it, but i don't think they should use the thunderbolt name. I prefer the old Fairlane Thunderbolt with the hi-po 427. If they;re going to use that, I suggest they shoehorn a 427 into the rangers engine bay
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-Apr-02 AT 09:19 PM (EST)]No offense, but it looks more like something a riceboy would drive, especially with that rear wing. All show and no go, as far as I can tell. Isn't this what we accuse GM of doing with their vehicles? This thing comes from the same SLP that does up the Firebird?
I think it should be named the Thunderturd. Get rid of the gay stripes and wing and do some performance upgrades and I might come to like it.
well according to the sales brochure, you can order a performance and handliing package that adds 8% more power to the 3.0 and 4.0 engines by way of a cat-back exhaust and cold air box.
It's what those stupid rice burning boys want. And Ford is making them for profit. I bet none of those even know what "Thunderbolt" originally meant, or what was Fairlane.
I do agree the name is wrong, but on the other remarks:
It may look like a riceburner, but the youth today are buying $20,000 small trucks then adding thousands of dollars to them to make it look like this. Doesn't it make sense for Ford to build and sell something that already has some of these add-ons and being sold for $20,000-$23,000? Won't this help Ford bring in more owners and drivers of Ford brand products? Oh, maybe we are content with the owners and drivers we already have and don't want anyone joining the circle! I for one would rather have people driving Fords verses anything else out on the roads. The more people driving fords the fewer driving other brands. The company Ford is using for the asseseroies did work for G.M.on the trans-am and firebird among others, but since they pulled the plug on those models, the company went looking for work at all manufacturers. This is not the first Ford that they have done and probably won't be the last. So we don't buy it because the company who does the work used to be employed by G.M.? So the auto parts suppliers should be off limits because they also build non Ford items?examples: Holley,Bendix,TRW,and Borg Warner
I hope that everyone understands, I'm enthustiastic because I feel If you drive a Ford you will buy a Ford. I think Ford is on the right page in recruiting our youth to drive Fords. Look at how many autos Ford is building aimed at the youth: Focus "Sony", Focus "Street Edition", Focus "Kona Bike", Escape, Explorer Sport to name a few.
The day I stopped to look at it a young couple driving a s-10 were very interested in buying it. It is now gone I hope they did buy it at least there would be one less ch&*y on the road. I already feel safer.

Why do you think Ford came out with Focus? Honda Civics did well with the Ricers so Dodge came out with Neon and Ford came out with Focus. Cavaliers already lend themselves well to ricing so the Chevy didn't have to worry about it.
Ford wants market domination... ranger is already the best selling small truck for something like 12 consecutive years, the F-150 is the best selling truck, and the focus is the best selling compact car right now. I guess now they want to have the best selling youth vehicle. Sounds like smart business to me.
