So I am redoing this engine for my 55 F100 truck, new timing cover, oil pump, water pump, distributor. All goes together well. turn the engine over to put on the oil pan, oops there goes the oil pump shaft..
I read now that there is a little ring keeper to be on the uphill side (now I learn this!)..
So, do I take the oil pan off and fix this now, its still on the stand for another month or so. Will I have to replace the oil pan gasket?
well, with lots of lookers and no responders, I decided the answer must be obvious, so I yanked the pan (no the gasket was ok), flipped the rod over (now held in by the keeper), and put the pan back on (with additional caulk in the corners)..

Sorry about no responders. I have not been on here for a few days. I would have responded with "put it on there, while you still have the chance" .
