I have had this deck in my '04 F150 for a few months, but finally got the box made and installed the amp tonight. I am new to the car audio world, and I am frustrated, on the verge of mad I cannot get this thing to do what I want. If anyone could help me out I would be grateful. Here is the system so far. it should be noted that the stock Ford 6x8 door speakers are junk and will be replaced SOON, but they are in play for now:
Here is the deal. the deck and the amp both have a crossover. My goal was to eliminate all low frequencies from the four interior door speakers, so the bass comes only from the sub. One would think you could control this with the crossover in the deck. but, when I do this with the sub off...get all lows out of the doors, I turn the sub back on and nothing is coming out of it either. Maybe what I am wanting to do is not possible, but like I said I am new to this and have no idea what I am doing. The Alpine manual has been about ZERO help. The crossover on the amp is set at 120 hz right now, it is adjustable from 40-200. I have an engineering background so I understand how the crossover works, but I am dumfounded as to how the deck and amp are working together in this setup. Also, since everything is in the cab, should I set all the filters to a high slope? Finally one last question. This deck can be set up as a two way or 3 way system. Mine is two wy because of the sub and four mid-high range speakers. However, on the crossover on the deck the ranges still say lo-mid-high, which makes me think this should control only the door speakers and not the sub. That makes sense except when I change these settings it is affecting the sub also...arrrrgh! Sorry so long, thanks for the patience.
Ok, I think I've got it whipped, or at least a start. I messed around with the crossover on the deck and got the result I desired. I am still wondering if the crossover on the deck controls the sub at all. I am thinking it does not, that it has low, mid, and high pass filters, all for the door speakers, but I will mess with it more tomorrow evening and try to find out by experimentation. I would still take any input that anyone has, but sorry to waste everyones time! By the way, I posted some pics in my gallery of the box and amp install. A shop in town made the box and mounted the amp. I have mixed feelings about the install, but it is clean for the most part. Thanks.
Ihave the Alpine CDA-7892, an older version of your deck. The crossover points in the deck affect both the speaker's and sub output. I would set the amp @ 60 hz and then do your tuning from the deck. That way, the deck will not send a lower signal then the amp will process. My Alpine is set @ 80hz for the bass and 120 hz for the high's currently. I have 1 10" Memphis sub fed by 1 1100 watt Memphis Mono amp set to 60 hz. The speaker's are 4 Pioneer 2 way 5x7's. Hope this helps.
