I have always been jealous of you folks that can do well on 5 or 6 hours of sleep. I need 7 - 8 every night. So when I go to sleep depends on when I need to be up. Left to my body's own rhythms, I seem to sleep 1am to 8:30 or 9:00am.

I usually work in my home office until about 1 or 2, then crash and get up around 7 or 7:30 to head to work. Don't know what it is but I HATE to sleep...can't stop thinking of all the stuff I could be doing rather than just laying there. Messed up, I know....I'm sure it'll bite me in the butt eventually in life.

From what I understand:

Every hour of sleep you get before midnight is the same as 2 hours after midnight.

Now...If I could only do it

I have to hit the sack between 10 and 10:30p...the alarm goes off at 5am. I can really feel it when I don't get close to 7 hours. I envy those that can get by on 4-5 hours of sleep. I've tried staying up later...a good book..or something good on HBO...but I just can't do it..especially if it's a barn night. After an 11 hour day at work, which includes commute time, on a barn night I'll spend another 4 hours cleaning up the horse, riding the horse, cleaning up the horse again..and driving home...then I'm beat. That's a 10pm night...for sure.

When I was working, I would get to bed if I was lucky at 11, and be up 4- 4:30. It wasn't entirely by choice, I was working two jobs trying to keep up, but all it got me was a messed up back, and now I have more time to do things, but less ability to do them. I was and am always tired now, so it really wasn't a good thing.
