I have a 1994 Ford Explorer. The check engine light will come on and stay on after about 10 or so minutes of driving. Going up a hill also seems to make it turn on.
I have access to a scan tester and got the following two codes out.
332 - EGR valve opening not detected.
543 - Fuel pump Circut open: Battery to PCM.
The truck is running just fine however.
The truck has 86,000 miles.
Last changed the fuel filter at 32,000miles so its due for a change
but I dont think thats the problem.
Any ideas on how to fix this? Is 543 related to the fuel pump relay?
Is it likely that both of these codes are valid and happening at once or just an error with the computer.
Work on your problems one at a time. Take the first code and fix it. Some codes can set other codes which are not necesarily at fault but caused by the first one.
Fix the EGR valve or sensor problem first, clear the memory and drive it for a while. If the check engine light comes on again, pull and work on only the first code again (keeping the others in your mind for future refrence).
