Head Gaskets

Everyone is right about replacing head gaskets on the 6.9 in the truck. Possible but a painful process. Pull the engine and save yourself the agravation. Moe

I've done several in the truck, it's a lot of work, but so is removing the whole engine and then tearing it apart. All you need is a good cherry picker and a good memory to remember which bolts and pushrods need to stay in the heads.

Thumbs up

It wasn't so much the work as it was difficult to get the heads back in place without damaging the head gaskets. The headset was $400.00 Cdn with tax at the International dealer. $152.00 for 8 German glow plugs. Like I said not fun but at least that is fixed right.3 inch exhaust next. Couldn't have done it without all the good infomation in this forum. Moe

Still not easy. Can't be in two places at the same time.

I've now done it both ways. For me, in the truck was better, if you're just doing head stuff.
