Its a 95 Ranger 2.3l 4 cyl. Drove it to work no problem, went to go to lunch and nothing. When I turn the key I get normal dashboard lights, radio, etc. Turn the key and nothing happens. I tried to jump it with my friends F-150, nothing. I dont think it is the battery. I need to get home, any ideas? She has about 200k miles on her as well, but still gets the same gas mileage as the day I bought her.
You could try shorting across the two big wires going to the solinoid with the key on,with a screwdriver,Just follow the positive battery cacle over to the little box on the fender, this will put power to the starter.be careful, because it will spark a little bit,but your truck should start.remember to have the key all the way on in its normal RUN possition.this silinoid may have gone bad.if it starts this will tell you that the starter is working.
That sounds like a good idea, leave it in first and pop the clutch, I just might have to try that one. Hey Vin, I think I am going to try that. So I cross from the positive to the box on the fender?

Alright! I shorted the wires and she cranked right up. So, that means the solenoid is bad? That shouldnt be too expensive. Thanks to all, at least now I can get home...
That just means the starter is good and MAYBE the solinoid is bad but they are only $5 so you might as well replace it and see. There could be several things causing your problem, like if the soilnoid dosn't fix it you need to check for voltage to the solinoid on the little wire to it.you see, voltage comes from the ignition switch, down to a clutch switch, also to the transmission, then to the solinoid. If the clutch isn't in or the trans is not in neutral,no power goes to the solinoid,so it could be any one of these switches if its not the solinoid.
