I'm only on my third tank of my new to me 03 excursion. I stop fill it up and 72 dollors later the guage is still reading empty. The low fuel light is on too, but now it is just above empty. The compter reads 500 and some miles to empty. Here is the weird part every time I start the truck the guage gets a little higher, but it's still not right. Has any one see this before?
Yes, when my X was new it did the same. So I reset the overhead trip computer. Then my compass was wrong. I also noticed that it went to reading that there were 0 miles to empty, but I still had 4 gallons of fuel left. I reset the overhead trip computer again, this time I put in the correct "Zone" for the compass. Now the overhead reads 0 miles left to empty, when it is actually empty, my compass is correct and the miles per gallon useage estimator is closer to actual- before it was telling me I was averaging more mpg's than I really was, 14mpg (stock- leadfoot).
All of the directions to reset the computer are in the owners manual, just be sure to know what # zone you're in to input for the compass.

Reason: Adding more
I had the same problem. I wasn't too concerned about it. When I started running diesel kleen, obviously for other reasons, the problem went away and hasn't returned. I don't know if the 2 are related other than the possibility that the additive cleans the sensors in the tank.
