'97 powerstroke diesel died while driving it. replaced cam pos. sensor, fuel filter. It hits a little with ether (i know the risks) But it seems to be fuel related. any sugestions?
You already replaced the CMP? didn't mention that in your other posts.
If I'm not mistaken the 97 has an electric pump like the 99+ trucks. If that is the case the truck will not die if the pump fails going down the road, it will continue to draw through, and it will restart if the system pressure holds.
It had fuel in it after we had replaced the filter, crank on it a bit then took the filter out and the bowl was at least half full. but I didnt drain the bowl completly, it all looked clean.
Is it an actual chip...piggybacked on the PCM, or a tuner? When a chip goes bad it will take everything else with it. Will it start with the chip removed? Or with the stock programming if it's a tuner?
I haven't tried removeing the chip yet. It's a tuner by the way. It died yesterday away from home. I'll be headed up there here in a bit. But I'll try that. I'm thinking or hoping anyway that it is the HPOP.
Had to take to Ford. Just as well. I haven't picked it up yet, but they said it was the main computer that runs the injectors, glow plugs, etc. I wonder if my superchips tuner could have anything to do with this going out???
