I have a question on towing. The truck came with a 4 - prong outlet and I have noticed that some have a rounded 7 prong outlet. What is the difference? Can you use a 4-prong in a 7 with an adapter?

Disregard. Had the wrong answer to your question, and don't know how to delete a post on this site.

I have a follow up question. Is the 4-prong any use to me or do I need to convert to a seven? With standard equipment what can I safely tow? The reasons for my questions are I have never towed any thing before. I may in the future now that I have a vehicle that can.

Most boat and utility trailers have surge brakes or no brakes - in either case, the 4-pin connector is all you need. The 7-pin connector incorporates additional wires for electric brakes and in some cases a charging circuit for batteries in the trailer. If you plan to tow a trailer with electric brakes or batteries, your truck will need additional wiring and the 7-pin connector.

The 4-pin connector is standard and the 7-pin connector is part of the towing package

You can go from a 7-pin connector on the truck down to a 4-pin trailer connector, but you can't go the other way and still have everything on the trailer function properly.

What is it that you are wanting to tow?

Most likely a popup camping or small boat trailer.

Thanks,

From your reply it sounds like for small trailer the 4-prong should be fine.
