i need to move my project truck so i m asking people how or if they can show me a diagram or a drawing how to set up a points dizzy in a '84 or a '85 f150?? i currently have a '77 429 set up in my truck and has the points dizzy in it and i just want get it running for now so i can move it and drive it , it s been a project truck of mine .. hope someone can help me here...
ok thanks that helped but i wonder if u know what wire/color is the ignition wire for the + on the coil that come out of the '85 cab? i m guessing it s the big red /green wire??
i m here again... i ve wired everything as shown above picture... i have red/blue stripe wired to the "S" on the solenoid, Red/light green stripe which is ign wired to + side of coil and then +side coil to the "I" on the solenoid am i missing anything here ... my truck will try to start if i jump solenoid with screwdriver... but with turning the key, nothing goes but my volt meter do moves etc, then i tried switching the "s" wire to "I" wires,it keep cranking like slowly like i have ths starter stuck on hot position so is there something i m missing or anything, can anyone help?
Sounds like you sre not getting any power on your red/blue stripe wire when you spring the switch to start. Where is your neutral safety switch? Is it wired in?
thats what i was thinking?? hmm what kind of power will i get from that red/blue stripe wire? and where would i get a new netural safety switch on the c-6 i have down there.. is there any way i can check to see if it s not working?
You will get 12 volts on the red/blue when the key is in the "start" position. On the side of the tranny you should see two red/blue wires going in to a plastic switch. One is in, the other is out. If you shaved the insulation off, and twisted these two wires together, it would bypass the neutral safety switch.
There is probably two other wires going into the tranny switch also. Just for your info, these two are for the back-up lights.
i m still fighting with this puzzle, i will try bypass but i think i already did, nothing still but tomorrow i will go get a new netural safety switch... i have two wire coming from that switch , my back up light dont work, wondered why i have one blue wire hanging from the rear to mid cab and wonder what is it for? anyone knows? also one red one from fuel switch or something ,a very red wire?? and there's two wire coming from the netural switch but some people says 4 wires??? how?
I am looking at your first post in this thread, and you say you have a 429 in your truck. Do you know the history of this truck? A 429 is an old late sixties/early 70's motor, so we know that is not original. I would venture to say your tranny is not original either. The original vehicle it was in probably had the back-up switch on the column or something like that. You are going to find lots of things that don't really make sense or match up in a case like this. Maybe a switch for your year truck/tranny will fit the older tranny, and it may have the four wires. You will have to look at a Haynes manual or something for the back-up wire colors, but if you get the right switch installed, you may be able to hook up some of those extra wires hanging around under there.
u re right , got 429 engine in it but orginal tranny... and the cab still should get the same wiring as my chassis since i kept the wriinbg underneath and just different cab and engine ... engine havent ran since rebuilt thats why i m trying to get it running... i have seen another prong with 4 wires which are black/pink , purple/orange , and two red n light blue on it ... all those on one prong or plug , whatever u call it... so i m rthinging i might have to spilce them but cuz i dont have anything else i can plug that to.. so i m thinking the black/pink and the purple/orange are for the back up light but where do i wire them to and those red/light blue are the netural switch, i know this is a project of mine so it s little messy but i ve gotten most wire right cept getting it running , it does crank but wont stay running also no back up light , thats all i have left to figure out but appericate u helping much as u can ... been a project eveyrone s expecting me to finish
I think you have it right on the wire colors. Those four wires are together in one plug because they all go to the same place-that switch on the side of the tranny. Why your tranny switch does not have four wires I don't know. If you take a small nail, wire, or something and bridge those two red/lightblue wires together in that plug, I bet it will crank over.
Franklin, i ll try bypass but i m ordering a new netural safety switch getting it first thing tomorrow , will it have 2 or 4 wire? i dont know so will find out tomorrow .. my orginal switch had a plug with 2 wire... weird? and wonder does 80-86 use different plugs or prongs?> since mmy tranny's a '81 c-6 , the cab is a '85 and i m using half of '85 wiring from the cab halfway to half of the chassis where all wires meets?? or are all 80-86 netural switch same?? i m hoping get it running!!! arghh
