There is a guy here in town who makes custom 3" exhausts for $120. This does not include the mufflers, but it still isn't all that bad. This with no cats and one chamber flowmasters is supposed to sound AWESOME! I haven't done it yet, but I'm about to. I've got a cat and a Flowmaster 40 series right now and wouldn't recommend it (waaaaay too quiet).

Cut the muffler out and keep the cat on. I wouldn't mess around with removing the cat. With this set up it should be loud enough for you. Obviously you're not worried about passing any emission tests.
We don't have emissions tests. I've been told that a Flowmaster 40 series is louder than no muffler at all.
Doesnt mean you should remove the cat anyway. And a Flowmaster will NOT be louder than straight pipe. IIRC, they have claimed it makes more power than straight pipe, but its not louder.
