Hmm, right now I am running stock valve spings with the 901. If I go to the 941 will I need to put some different valve springs in? And should I go with better springs now with the 901?
You *should* be ok with the stock valvetrain with the 941. It kind of is pushing it, but if the rocker shafts are new and heavy duty, it'll probably be ok.
If your valves aren't floating with the stock springs with the 901 then there is nothing to worry about. I would use the recommended springs with the 941, though. Just to be safe.
How many horses will I gain with the 941 over the 901? Im thinking of just sticking with what I have cause I dont want to put new valve springs on. I am okay with stock springs with the 901 for sure right?
I'm running the 33-224-3 in my stockish 390 (0.040" over, ported/valved heads, 500cfm 2bbl... otherwise stock).
It's power band is advertised to be 1500-5500... but, by ear/speedo/butt/guess it doesn't really come on till mid/high 2000's... possibly as much as 3000. It does pull hard up there, but, I typically don't use my truck that way.
It's pretty much asleep otherwise.
On the dyno it shifts at 4800 anyways, so, the extended rpm potential is not being used by my tow oriented C6 (1800rpm tow stall, modified shift/cooling stuff, and other things I don't understand).
I wish I had gone with the 33-221-3 or maybe the 33-222-3 for the way I use the truck... daily driver now, soon to have added weekend mustang tow rig duty.
Good Luck.
Brothers & Sisters,
I too have a 390 in a 74 f250. Two wheel drive 4 speed 4.11s. 390 has a single plane edlebrock street master, 4bbl 650, fresh heads, long tube headers, double roller time chain set, new lifters, and a new compo cam. I am about to install my new cam. It is the 33-221-3. What i would like to know is if its worth replacing the cam with such a similar grind. Will this thing have a slight thump? Any one have this cam? I am anxious to get this thing on the road but don’t want to waste my time with a cam that isn’t improved much.
With 206 @ .050 on 110 there isn't enough overlap to get any real "idle". Now if you have them grind a custom using that lobe and tighten it up to a 106 it wouldn't sound like a stocker at all. It would sound "tuned up".
