Cold Weather Start Up

Question for all you veteran 7.3L PSD owners. What do you find to be the cheapest, easiest, quickest way to start your trucks in very cold climates? Where I'll be (if I buy the diesel I'm eyeing--it would be my first), the winters will be rough and I may not have electrical outlets to plug into. Interested in your thoughts.

I live in a very cold climate, long winters, high altitude. If I don't plug in and the temp drops below 10 or 15 degrees my truck still starts but it doesn't like it much. It's cranked up alot colder still but it howls, whines, rattles, and smokes so bad I won't do that to it unless I HAVE to ever again. Even a couple of hours on the AC plug helps alot. Friend of mine has a diesel snowcat that lives in the woods and he runs a gas generator for pre-heat (hydraulic tank too). If you aren't going to have electricity where you live and are looking for a cheap, easy, quick getaway first thing in the morning on a cold day buy a gasser. And never ever use ether on an engine with glow plugs.

Here is an engine block heater that is propane fired. Scroll to the middle of the page. I'm sure there are others.
