EPA comming to get ya

According to July issue of Light & Medium Truck magazine, the EPA is going to push for retrofitting all 11 million diesel engines in this country to reduce particulate matter emissons within 10 years. All diesel engines, trucks to construction equiptment. Says ultra-low-sulfer fuel and particulate-matter filters will reduce PM emissions by 90%. Cost in the billions. Anybody know more about this?

yeah 2007 they step to the tier 2 diesel emmisions, the 6,0ps, the dmax lly and the cummins 600 all conform to this now, they just need the clean diesel to run to the standards. the epa will never suceed in making a retrofit mandatory unless there gonna pay for it, were all just grandfathered in. its like the building department making everyone that lives in a house built in 1995 upgrade there house to the 2005 standards, sounds good just no feesable. when the oil refineries have to produce the cleaner fuel the biggest problem is they will just have another excuse to try to rip us all off. the cleaner fuel will help alot but some of theese old motors, like the normally aspirated, and the indirect injection will still smoke. its just the dang tree huggers with there panties in a ruffle. think its mostly the ones that drive the little convertables that sit about as high as my exaust does

That's why I'm a big advocate for soy biodiesel.
The bad thing about these new emission standard reducing the sulfur in the diesel is that it will also reduce the lubricity. I know out in California they have the low-sulfur diesel and I know semi drivers that will take a couple gallons of b100 (100% soy biodiesel) out there with them to use as an additive because of it's higher lubricity than regular diesel fuel.
I don't see how the EPA will implement those regulations on all the trucks on the road now, but I'm sure it will make it more difficult for manufacterers to produce engines.
