Im going to replace my carpet with roll on bed liner and i was wondering if anyone had any problems with lingering smell?
also what are your opinions on leaving the plastic sides in the bed or taking them out as far as looks go?
another question is the brackets that hold the seat how do the come off i tried a regular socket wrench and thought i was going to break it do i need an impact? and its it a problem to cover those two things in the middle of the bed what are there purpose anyways?
I havent put any liner in yet so i dont know about the smell. I took the plastic siding off because it was cracking and half the screws were gone. I kinda like it with out it. I think i might make some out of sheet metal eventually. For the Brackets, i used some pipe to get leverage and just wrestled em out.
Oh ya, those oval things are access points for the body mount bolts i believe. You can pull them out mask the inside and put them back in later. But, some of the companies that do spray in bed liners for trucks spray over those, so i guess its not a big deal if youre not gonna need to get to those bolts, and if you do, you can just cut it out. Its your choice.
thanks for the reply
i used a cheater on those brackets and put about a 10 to 15 degree bend in my socket wrench.... i guess they are just not meant to come out! (only 3/8" drive wrench)
Ya, mine were kinda rusted, so they took a long time to get out. I went through 3 torx bits trying to get out the seat belt brackets. They just sheared off. You won't have that problem with an '88. What kind of Bed liner are you gonna use? I haven't decided if I want to do it my self or just get it Rhino Lined or something.
