Question 7.3 vs. 6.0 PSD Engine

I am a happy F250 SDSC 4x2 7.3 PSD owner that tows an 8K pound trailer in the Sierra Nevada mountains frequently. Since the 6.0 PSD's came out I have wondered why Ford went to the smaller diesel engine. Was it for fuel efficiency or some other reason(s)? Is one more dependable than the other? Can you tow the same amounts?

Thanks in advance!

A couple reasons... One would definately be emmisions, but the second would be the same reason that Ford dropped the 5.0 and went to the 4.6... The 7.3L engine's design and construction limited Ford to a certain power and economy level. And, although the 7.3 can be readily upgraded to a much higher level of both with aftermarket parts, on a mass-produced factory scale, it wasn't a viable option, hence the new design. The 6.0 makes more HP, more torque, better ecenomy and lower emmissions, and fit Ford's cost plan, hence the change.
