My name is Austin Barker and I have a 1964 F 100 with a 292 V-8 and the T- 98 transmission. The engine is shot and needs to be replaced. Does anyone know where I can get a 292 crate engine. I would like to keep the truck as origanal as possible.
Thanks!
I was going through a local classifieds and came up with this interesting find if anyone is interested. I am tempted to call on it to find out more before their listing expires.
Welcome, tend to prefer having the original engine rebuilt than going with the created. Know what you are getting. Check around and find a reputable shop. Or, suggest check the FTE classified, or run a search on ebay see if you can find what you are looking for from seller in your area.
I would recommend Jasper. I got a 390 for my '66 - and so far it is working out great. They will do anything you want to the motor - i.e. rebuild your donor or modify it anyway you like. The prices are very reasonable.
There are Y block engines out there. I also admire your intention to keep your truck as original as possible. Have patience, these engine are around. Personallt I'd look for a 312 ci Y block with 4v carburetor. These engines have good power and a 312 would be a bolt in, not noticeable install in your truck. Check over in the engine forum.

Austin, I don't know your definition of crate engine, but that usually refers to a brand (Ford) new engine on a shipping pallet. I am old enough to never say never, but since the last Y block was installed in 64 (to best of my knowlege) I don't suspect you'll find one.
My recomendation would be to find a good local engine builder. I also would kick around the 312 upgrade too.
