Truck Year Ident..

I think this truck is somewhere between a '74 and '79 model.

It is a F250 Ranger with Supercab, styleside, and has round headlights. Automatic 8 cylinder.

what year might this be?

Thanks guys - I'll drop the "value" question and just ask if someone can tell me the year, so I can properly evaluate the truck's value.

So...what year might this be, or what else do I need to know to determine the year? Thanks all!

It can be a number of years.... Slit grill, one piece, hard to tell on such minimal info

It has "FORD" in the grill under the hood, and no blue Ford oval - does that help?

What do you mean by split grille? There is a vertical piece of chrome in the middle of the grill that makes it look like two grills - is that split?

I browsed through the user gallery - based on those pics it looks like it's a '76. It didn't match anything earlier, in my memory anyhow.

Thanks for the help!

It'll give you an idea as to what to expect to be regular value. Not a lot of difference value wise between those years.

Another key could be the side emblems, where it says, in this case, F-250. I've seen a lot (and a friend used to own one) of trucks around here that are 78/9, but have the 73-77 grille on them. If the emblem is on the fender, it's probably a 73-76. If it's on the piece that goes all the way across the truck at the bottom of the windshield (behind the hood), it's a 77(with original grille)/8/9. Of course, that's assuming it's original. Someone in the past might've done an entire front clip switch and remembered to replace the emblems with the correct ones. THe best way to find out the year of a vehicle is with the VIN. If you can get that, people on here can pinpoint not only the exact year, but also a lot of other things. Hope this helps.....

Edit: ok, I put in my gallery pics I found on eBay so to help distinguish the difference. The red/orange is a 77, with the emblem above the chrome strip, and the blue is a 75, emblem below chrome strip. Hope this helps, too.

Is there any reason a vehicle of this age couldn't be used as a daily driver? I've gotten quite experienced working on my '95 f150 and '92 thunderbird, but I've never worked on a carburated engine. That's one of the reasons I'm interested in an older truck - it'd be nice to have something not computer-controlled to tinker with.

If you so choose, there is absolutely no reason to not drive it daily, other than the fuel expense.

I don't see any reason why you couldn't drive it every day. I have a 73 F100 with a 460 and c6. I drive it 28 miles round trip to work every day. Actualy, I drive it every where I go. There are a lot of options that you can pirate from 78 and 79 model trucks to make it more driver friendly. I just acquired a complete cruise control set up and intermitant wiper set up for mine. There is actualy enough stuff available to give it every thing a new truck has. It's all in what you want to spend, and what you want it to have.
