I'm new to the forum and just purchased a 36 Ford Pickup that was partially restored. It will eventually become a street rod. Right now I'm going to get it running as is. I have the following engine that I need to identify:
Bell Housing Information: 20 Stamped into the housing Unable to read raised casting Number Look like 2 V 7 or the V looks like a check mark.
Piston Bore: approx 3.106
Ford Pistons: Piston Size: Approx 3.075
Piston Markings: 01T F6 U5A 4 ring .040 stamped on top
Aluminum Dome Pistons
Cylinder Head Markings: 81T6049 AND 81T6050
Any idea of the year or is it stock with .040 overbore? Are there any other markings I should look for?
I'll take a stab at this. 81T indicates the heads are about a '38, and the T is for trucks, so '38 truck heads(81 indicates first years the part was used). The pistons are stock Ford over the counter pistons, 01T would be '40 truck, and as you know, they are 40 over. Those are pistons you could buy from the parts dept when rebuilding your engine. So it's prob a late '30's block, that got rebuilt sometime in the '40's or '50's with a 40 over bore.
I agreee i think that is about as close as I'm going to get on the exact year. The raised casting number looks like a 2 V 7 but that doesn't correspond with any casting number I'm been able to locate.
I can't help you with your casting number thing, but FTE does have a Flathead V8/V6 Forum that may have some answers for you. I did a search of that forum using the word "casting" and came up with quite a few threads. You may find your info there.
