Does anyone know a lot about liscensce suspensions? I have to go to court soon cause Massachusettes is trying to suspend mine. (I really didnt do anything, but I'm 20 so that makes me automatically guilty) My two questions are:
If my liscensce does get suspended, can I change my address to another state (New Hampshire) and get a new liscensce there?
And if that doesnt work, could I get a motorcycle liscensce and drive that for the summer?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 31-Mar-02 AT 09:16 PM (EST)]As far as a License(note spelling) is concerned.
You will be held reponsible wherever you go.
I cannot in good conscious help you to avoid being responsible.
I suggest you take your lumps and you will become a better driver for it.
Don't get me wrong,I feel for you, as I lost my Motorcycle license for Two weeks when I was 17 because I was caught speeding by 6 mph.
That was 1968 but, I Instantly became a better driver for it.
Before you GET Caught trying to change identity or getting a license in a different state:
Think of all the money you'll save.
Besides, the whole idea about taking it away is becuase you did something to make you learn not to do things like you did.
Think about that for a while.

You have a uphill battle. I know that the motorcycle route will not work.
You have slim odds of getting your license through another state. It's possible but that's a road I would not want to get caught on.
Besides if you are pulled over again in MA, even though you have a different state license they will throw the book at you since your driving privilege has been revoked in your state.
First of all the state dosen't take your license away just because your twenty. They have bigger fish to pick on. You must have done something to warrent it.
In Michigan when they take your license you can't drive anything on the public roads.
Any other state will ask for pre-license experience.
You can run, but you cannot hide.
I would suggest stealing a large sum of money, then getting plastic surgery on your face and moving to Mexico.
Im not sure about your state but here in Iowa if your suspended from driving and you get caught driving it dont matter if you got a licence from 49 of the other states you still suspended in Iowa and you can count on jail time.. My advice dont risk it and take your lumps like an adult..sorry not tryin to be harsh but you lost your license for a reason not just being 20
not tryin to pee on your parade just my $.02
You see this is why I know that I can't win here, all I said is that they are trying to suspend my liscensce. I was in at a club (18+) and som kid used a fake id to buy a beer, he knew it wasnt gonna work and he ran off, then the waitress looked around and pointed to me (we looked simmilar I guess) I laughed it off but my apathy only pissed them off. Now the state wants to take my liscensce away for 6 months and I think in the end they will.
I grew up in Mass, and can tell you my personal experience. When I was seventeen I managed to get my license suspended. I then went to another state and got a license. Three years later the Commonwealth revoked my Massachusetts driving privileges for LIFE. I had received a letter from the Registrar, informing me I was scheduled for a hearing concerning my driving. I thought it was for re-instatement. When I arrived a very nice man said to me, "I know you have a license on you, can I see it please?" I handed it to him, and he turned into a mean little Irishman. He said, Buddy, you don't know how much trouble you just walked into." Next thing I get a letter saying I can NEVER drive in Massachustts.

So you're saying that someone used teir own fake ID and the staff thought it was you?
You no doubt have your own legitiment ID that says your 20.
How does being 20 make you automatically guilty of something ?
How can you be in trouble with being in a 18+ place when you're 20
What is the legal age in that state?
I don't why you're worried?
It's a He said > She said < Kinda thing.
It sounds like a no brainer to me > pardon the pun.

Kevin, without a doubt, get a lawyer. You need to convince the judge that your're not the guy they are after. One has to keep in mind that the state sees driving as a 'priviledge', and to them it is a completely frivolous one. They really don't care if you're supposed to get to work or school or the grocery store or whatever. They don't seem to recognize driving as a nessasary part of everyday life. It IS possible to travel on the highways unlicensed, and without registration or insurance. But you have to know how to make the proper legal arguements, you have to have an untitled automobile, and you have to be ready to sit in jail while waiting for a chance to explain to the judge how this all works. If you want to study, read Art. 4 Sec.2 Cl.1 of the US constitution. And then Shapiro V Thompson and Thompson V Smith from the US Supreme court. But if you learn how to do this, you can expect the state to look @ everything you do with a microscope. Plan on them making your life a living hell on every possible issue. Might be easier to live with the suspension and then try to keep a lower profile afterwards. DF
Heres a follow up:
I did get a lawyer, hes gonna cost me an arm and a leg but its not worth the risk of going to court without one.
I think the cop does have the ID, when the kid took off, the bartender still had it.
But the ID is only evidence that someone tried to buy alcohol, not me. All they have is that and the bartender that said I looked like him. - But I look 30! If it matters, my friend saw the whole thing, but what are the odds of a judge believeing two 20 year olds?
I hope they take into consideration my criminal record, Ive never been arrested, no speeding tickets or parking tickets.
Thanks for the support, Ill find out what comes of this the 11th.
