What kida mileage should i be getting from a 77" F-150 w/460 just rebuilt the motorcraft carb on it gettin around 7-8 mpg(highway) should'nt it be getting more??
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 10-Apr-02 AT 05:17 PM (EST)]Welcome aboard.
It depends on alot of things. Is 4x4 or 4x2? What size tires? Do you know the gear ratio? Is it tuned properly and running good?
10 mpg or less seems to be the norm for most 460's I have been around. You should feel lucky to get 7-8 mpg, I know several folks who barely get 1-2 mpg out of theres...

P.s. You should take some time and look around, specifically the 460 forum, and read up on them a little more. There is a ton of information here, you just gotta look in the right place.
TX, I know that 460's aren't known for good gas mileage. I have heard of some getting a little more than what you are but not much. BTW you may want to try the '73 - '79 forum. I don't think the folks on the Ranger forum will have much info on 460's.
