Talking Ford pulling truck's!!

I went to the local fair ground's here in upstate NY to watch the truck pull's,and in the stock class they had 3 Dodge's,6 Cheby's,and 9 Ford's ranging from 1975-85,and all together their was 10 full pull's,and only 1 Cheby was in the pull off,and the 3 Dodge's,and 6 F-250/350's ranging from 1977-85.Well the 1979 stock F-250(other then a 460 swap)took the sled all the way past the 300ft mark, and still was pulling with out trouble. The 79 took 1st,and 2nd,and 3rd were taken by F250's.WoW what a truck for truck pulling!! I will be entering my 79 Supercab 4x4 460/C6/N.P.205 D70 rear/60 front next year.It was just a awsome truck pull off,and the F250/350's where getting the job done with no problem. The anouncer said if yea want a toy/pretty truck get a Chevy, and if yea need a work,or pulling truck Ford has what it take's.Had to share this with someone, and who bettter but You guy's!

You mean there were no Dodge HEMI's???? According to all Dodge freaks, there is no competition out there....lol..lol..lol. Well, I'll be danged...live and learn, eh? Too bad you didn't take some videos to post someplace.

Real truck pulls, compared to those zillion horsepowered race pickups, would be so much more realistic and show the actual performance of each vehicle. Those high horsepower jobs... well, they are a blast just to listen to that engine scream, but all in all..we stuck with stock trucks for actual pulling, so show us what-cha-got!

superduty, is that c6 gonna hold up to all that strain? For a truck pull I would enter my truck with t-18 4 speed. Its got a 6.36 granny gear that would pull that competion to china. If I find one in my are I will try it out.

I was at a truck pull last night where there were more chevys than Fords. These were highky modified trucks. Out of the eighteen trucks pulling 5 were Fords and the rest were Chevies. A chevy did happen to win barely but 2nd and third place were Fords. Fifth place was Ford as well.. These were beutiful 79s. 600 CI plus. Of course where I was at its truly Ford country and people were cheering there approval. Fords are pulling trucks with engines that have torque down low. It seems like the chevies when they lost there RPMs they just died. The Fords kept pulling. BTW No Dodges. The dodge guys were grumbling.

The pull's I was at were running a 5800lb. class, and stock non modified truck's.The only mod.'s were 4v carb.'s,and header's.2 of the Ford's(79's) had fender exit header's with 4" pipe runnung back to the box,and up threw the box threw the rollbar's.Nice and shinney chrome pipe's,and rollbar's.They were using 4low,and 2nd gear in the N.P. 435/205.Seamed to put the HP to the ground real good.Next month their is another fair a county away, and I will be bringing the camra.Alot of the same truck's run all the local fair's.Something my back might let me do with out getting bounce around to much. The wife isn't for it but will still stand behind me.My partner in the street worior is my driver, and im the guy who build's them, and get's the to the event.Im sick of not being able to drive becouse of several back surgery's.If you look in my gallery you will see why im not the driver for the street worior's.

I was looking at some New york truck pulling websites and it looks like you guys have some awesome Ford pulling trucks. I know a guy around here that ran a 79 Ford truck called wildfire that was pratically unbeatable. It was highly modified and ran around the country. Im talking 15 + years ago now. He made it look easy. That was truly a beast of a truck. I love truck pulling. Around here the 73-79 bodystyle is real popular for pulling trucks. Ive never pulled myself but have attended a lot of them. The stock trucks run 460s predominatly in the trucks. They perform excellent. Have lots of torque down low and a very durable motor. The 390s in the older trucks perform well. Another torque monster. I cant wait until the next pull. Good Luck supercab. Be sure to post pics. I dont want to miss the action.

WE run the street worior class at the monster jam summer heat tour, and that's only three day's of jumping the old Ford, and then im left with the truck pull's that I have desided to put a truck together for this.I have a 1979 Home built F350 4x4 dually that is in my gallery, and ive moved a couple of 14x70 mobile home's with, and I feel if the truck can move a mobile home I can move the pulling sled.I was going to enter it in the pull's I was just at but the dead line was june 5th to enter.I was mad like my 8yr. old son was!But their is 3 more fair's in my area this year yet,and im entering my F350 4x4 in them. Then my son,and I will get busy building a pulling truck.I just picked up a 75 F250 yesterday with this all in mind for the new truck to my collection.pic.'s will be coming.I have to keep busy or this bad back deal start's to rule my life.Gotta stay strong, and what better way to do it.Look out Cheby's,and Dodge's their's another Ford F series coming to pull.

well alot of places wont let you pull duals. I pull stock with my 79 supercab 4x4, 460 bored and stroked, all cast iron, intake and exhaust mans, one 4barrel, stock C6 , but i did swap to the aluminum transfer, for the differant ratio, i pull in 1st low 4. When it stays on the ground it pulls with the stock deisels. No added weight most of the time. Get into it its great, i crew for a prostock fwd ford, and anouther before that, the two trucks won the championship NTPA/MSPA the last three years. Watch my website, www.reddogracing.com, its down right now, but it'll be back up shortly.

Got some pics of my truck pulling the left front tire.

One thing to remember, is your not heavy enough to grunt it out like most people think, rpms and wheel speed are key. On a stock truck, use tire size to play with ratio's. The biggest tire you can run, and not chock the motor at the far end will win you some pulls. My motor, has some horses, even with the restrited cast manifolds, i am running 33's, and think I can pull 35's. Oh, and all we run on the prostocks is BFG AT's. Once i get my tire size final, thats what ill run. To aggresive tires will not let you get the spin you need taking off.

I went to a truck & tractor pull Friday night in Youngsville, NC. In the modifieds classes, the Fords were kickin' the Chevys and Dodges around the track, but a Chevy won the 4x4 class with 297ft. because the Ford went out of bounds at 305ft (instant DQ). The small 4x4 pro class, an old '88 Ranger won. The 4x2 pro class, a '90 F-250 won, but blew a valve out of the hood at 307ft. The nearest Chevy to be found was 15 ft. back. The stock class, it was a bunch of Chevys and a couple of Dodges, but no Fords. Anyway, I watched a brand new '04 Duramax burn up his turbo (riding the rev limiter all the way) made 200ft., he said he was gonna claim warranty on it, and a old Dodge 12V Cummins Dually won the class, I talked with the guy, he just turned his fuel pump up, made 239ft., with an automatic, which surprised me greatly.

I can't wait to see the pic.'s.The Dually's were running thier own 5800lb class at the fair close to me.But I can alway's pop off the bud's on back and throw some 33's on.i have the wheel's,and 50/50 tire's that come off my 79 f250.33x12.50x16 on 10"rim's.This is totaly new to me(pulling a sled)but im like a kid with a new toy.The spin surgery's ive had keep me from doing the street worior class, and the mudding at a local mudding track. And im tierd of watching someone eles driving something i built! Red dog what T-case are you running?Sound's like you will be a help for a beginer like my self if you don't mind shareing some of your trick's.I noticed no one was up to shareing their sratdegy at the pull's.

Technique is so important to pulling. Little things can make all the difference. The wrong weight in the wrong place. The wrong side of the track. Dodging others holes. I just love truck pulling. Several of them coming up in my area. One south of me is truly the best one around here. One east of me last year had an unlimited weight class. One guy with a superduty weighed in at 15,000 lbs. Weights everywhere on the truck. He full pulled and went 20 feet into a nearby cornfield. The *** end of that truck was touching the ground at the end. He blew away everybody by 40 ft. Awesome awesome. Cant wait until the next pull. It looks like people start out slow speeding up and thengunning it at the end. Before Im gone. Im going to pull a truck just for the fun of it. It looks like a blast. Another truck I know of south of me has a mid 70s Ford that really pulls hard. He gives that truck all its got and then some. He wins a lot of pulls, Another guy I know has a superduty with the exhaust thru the hood with flames on the side. A diesel now. Ill post a pic if I see that truck in a few weeks. Its wild.

I noticed if you don't have the tire's hooked up by the 90-100ft point you will spin the tire's the whole ride. The guy's were running real low tire presure, and getting the tire's planted by the 100ft mark, and then nailing it for all it's worth. One ?? I have is why were they running more weight on the right side front with locking front's?WoW the blue blood running threw my vain's is pumping again just thinking about pull the sled!!!
