Hey I noticed that too supercab. Technique is so important. Be nice to ride with someone while there pulling. Maybe a guy would gain some experience. I dont know if I would want anybody to ride with me. Always got to worry about that front end on a 4 wheel drive. These 2 wheel pullers are pretty impressive. I wouldnt mind running one of those. I envy you man Good Luck. Keep us posted on your results. Tell us what you learned . That will help me if I pull.
right side weight i never see, left side weight is an old atage that the motor tends to tip the truck to the right, so just a little more on the left front. On the prostocks, we keep it pretty even, if there is an odd number, it goes on the left. Rev your motor while sitting still, what side of the truck lifts? The left. Its a mid 80's Np, when they went to aluminium, they changed the gear ratios inside. I think mine came outa a chev truck, it was handy so i grabbed it. I'll get you the numbers from it.
I dont mind telling what i run, now the owners of the prostockers get a little peveed when i tell folks what i have done to their trucks. My truck , is old and new to me. Old, as in stuff we used to do a long time ago, new as in , i forgot alot of the details of what we used to do, ie what transfer case to use. See we run profabs now, in the pros, i thin kits a np208, but hate to be wrong. I was actually struggling with getting the motor running, so some friends did that part for me. I got some pics in my gallery.
I went to the local fair ground's here in upstate NY to watch the truck pull's,and in the stock class they had 3 Dodge's,6 Cheby's,and 9 Ford's ranging from 1975-85,and all together their was 10 full pull's,and only 1 Cheby was in the pull off,and the 3 Dodge's,and 6 F-250/350's ranging from 1977-85.Well the 1979 stock F-250(other then a 460 swap)took the sled all the way past the 300ft mark, and still was pulling with out trouble. The 79 took 1st,and 2nd,and 3rd were taken by F250's.WoW what a truck for truck pulling!! I will be entering my 79 Supercab 4x4 460/C6/N.P.205 D70 rear/60 front next year.It was just a awsome truck pull off,and the F250/350's where getting the job done with no problem. The anouncer said if yea want a toy/pretty truck get a Chevy, and if yea need a work,or pulling truck Ford has what it take's.Had to share this with someone, and who bettter but You guy's!
Wouldn't happen to be Saratoga, would it?
If so, was one of the Ford's all primer, ugly as all heck, lifted, big BFG's, a plow frame, and did I mention ugly?
As far as the Hemis, I've seen them do VERY well with the proper tires in the 1/2 category. As in, full pull with a set of BFG's on it. With the stock tires, about half pull and start spinning. Depends a lot on the driver.
Yes it was,and the ugly truck your talking about had a Ford Motor sport flag mounted in the bed so it was standing proud right?P.S. No such thing as a ugly ford truck.Part of living in the northeast weather.

JHust had to inform every one about a truck pull I went too last night. It was a great night for the Ford fans. Id say two thirds of the trucks there were Fords and they domonated the pulling. This particular pull started at 6:00 and ended at 1:00. At this pull everything fromm off the road trucks to modifieds and superstock. They also had a exhobition pull with two duallies. In the modified class I seen 2 Ford trucks that were just awesome. You talk about power these things just flew down the track and full pulled out the gate. These trucks had 500 cubic plus engines. There were a couple of Chevies in this class with big motors as well but they looked like wimps compared to these two Fords. I havent seen two trucks pull like this ever and Ive been to a lot of pickup pulls. Yeh Baby Ford power all the way. These things were crankin. In the diesel modifieds powerstrokes came out on top as well. There were some nice lookin trucks out there. Hey I wish I could have taken all you guys to the pull youd loved it. I also seen a couple of trucks in the stock class both 78 or 79 Fords. One with a 460 the other with a 390. Both won there class. Looks like you better come to a truck pull with some Fords if you want to do good. The blue oval rules.
One of the reson's im putting together a pulling truck(stock class)for next year.Ive had a 14X70 mobilehome on the hitch of my one ton dump, and you could feel the frame twist when i came out with the clutch! It was owsome, and no harm done to the truck but I did get the home moved from one lot to another.then seeing the pull's at my llocal county fair's made the choise to pull next year, and have my partner in Ford love keep driving our street Worior. It's in my gallery. In my apinion if yea need a grocery getter get a chevy,if yea need a tow/work truck the oval speak's for it's self!!
It's a class of stock, and modified truck's that run a course around the monster truck course.Take a look at USHRA.com.We run inbetween the monster truck heat's,and qualifieing. You can see the air we get in my street worior gallery.1st place pay's $500.00.If it's 4wd you can enter, and run what you brang. Some truck's have thousand's of dollar's in it,and other;s are bone stock drove in from the road.
Just a update I went to another truck pull ten days a go. I seen this old three quarter ton Ford 4 wheel drive 65 model win the street stock 5500 lb class. That thing pulled so smooth. Also seen some PSD pull and did very well. Gettin ready to attend some mudrags and a mudbog. Talk about a blast. I cant wait. Thanks reddog for the info. You sound like another pulling guru I was just looking at your gallery. Wow some nice pullin trucks there. If I build a pull truck Im goin to call you.
Another local county fair this week, and the pull's are the 26th,and 29th.I will be bringing a camera to share with yea all,and get my second boost of motivation to build a puller for next year.I have had alot of spin surgery's so im limited to what I can do,and im tierd of watching my partner doing all the driving at the motorsport's were in(street worior).I build them, and he run's them. The puller's had one hand on the wheel, and the other on the window sil of truck door. They didn't seem to be getting bounced around, but their was a couple the were wheel hoping, and trying to hamer it to get past it but it didn't seem to work for them. But for the most part after they got the wheel's planted, and hooking up they tooled right along.Im crazy over this!!!!!Been on the side line to long.
I made a bad choice when I got my 1st surgery october 1999,and shortly after the surgery I was tooling along in the one ton dump in my gallery towing my car trailer with a 85 F250 on it when I was hit in the driver's rear dually cousing me to jackknife, and spin 180 degree's,and take out a bunch of gaurd rail, and rolling down a 15/20ft drop off.The one ton survived but my spin didn't.i had to replace the rear D60,and spring hanger's on left side, and the truck was back to work pushing snow, and towing my backhoe. Now it's time for me to pull with something I built.Ford of course!i can't wait, and all the sponcer's from the street worior are cool with a pulling ford.Jack Brynn ?Ford, and Mercurey one of the most repitabule Ford dealer's hear in upstate NY is sticking by us,or soon to be just me.I will have pic.'s of start of project to end!If my 1979 F250 with a spring mod. F/R with a Np435/NP205,and a 351W yes W will move a 14x70 mobile home im sure I can pull a sled.I have ALOT to learn but the drive is their.Blue Blood!
Your goin to do good. You got the drive. With all you went through this pullin truck will be a snap. Your one tough dude. I wouldnt have done as good as you. Keep me posted on your ventures.Again good luck.
Good luck with it. I would only recomend, if i havent allready, is to build a truck for a sanctioned class. Find the best local organization, and get their rules. The stock classes while fun at first get to be a real pain. Rules are not enforced well, adn you have a lot more bickering. Build your self a street stock/prostreet, or whatever class they have above stock. If you can afford it, jump right to the prostock/ or super class. I say this, because they allow you to run the bigger axles and tranfer cases, and it will save you money in the long haul, replacing parts, axles and transfer cases mostly. You can check out some good prostock's www.hillsled.com my site is down, but i got a backup piggy backing there for now.
Im a on low budget to start, and I was going to put together something like the stock class where they had several 75-85 F250/350's pulling .plus I want to make sure that my body can handl it as well as my wallet.I have several Dana60 front;'s,and rear's to bust befor I dive hard core into it.lot's of drivline part's as well.I hope to get in to the pro stock class down the road.
