C-8 heads

So I was looking at my heads, and they are C8AE-H, since I have decided to take them off for a little porting and to have hardened seats put in, which should make getting the manifolds off easier so I can put the headers on.
Anyhow my question is how do these heads compare to other FE heads? like what they used on mustang 390's and stuff not just truck heads, will they clean up nice? or should I start saving for the ebrocks.

I dont know man It looks like the 427 low riser type heads from 68 but i cant fide any code with -H in it. I have -N on 68 mustangs and c8ae 6069-j for the 68 fairlane. I know that is the block casting for a 427...... but that doesnt help with the heads so im not sure. I Saw a set of 428 cj heads for sale on ebay and they were cast with your numbers so i have know idea.

Well some one correct me if im wrong but they were run of the mill heads put on everything. With a set of hardend seats and ported they should do quiet well. I think the only difference between them and D2's are hardend seats and most people like the D2's for FE heads.

The flow depends on the specific porting job, and how far you port 'em. I just gasket matched my heads, and technically that's porting. I dont expect to see much increase in flow though.

I do have the flow data for stock and ported heads. Let me know.

your heads are basically the same as most other FE head, other then hardend seats. i would concentrate on the exhaust side of the head for porting. they should flow just fine.

I would be VERY interested in seeing these numbers... I have a set and based on other numbers I can't get more than ~340 hp with a mild cam on desktop dyno. I'd like to see if that's the reason.

Ok you asked for it. Here's the data, with standard sized valves and at 28" H2O pressure drop:

Ported D2TE-AA heads:
Intake
Lift: Flow:
.1 73
.2 148
.3 213
.4 239
.5 245
.6 248

Exhaust
Lift: Flow:
.1 59
.2 107
.3 153
.4 180
.5 191
.6 194

Unported C8AE-H heads (most standard stock heads), standard size valves:
Intake
Lift: Flow:
.1 63
.2 114
.3 168
.4 187
.5 202
.6 207

Exhaust
Lift: Flow:
.1 46
.2 88
.3 121
.4 142
.5 139
.6 142

Keep in mind, I copied this data off a previous thread on this board.

Hmm... not to hog the thread or anything... but a typical 9.7 compression c8ae-h headed .030 over 390 with a mild cam (218 @ .050) is only making around 350 horsepower (although desktop dragstrip gives the bigger heads a tenth). Lots of torque (420ish), but I was expecting more. Anything I am missing?

Those numbers perform almost exactly the same as the performer rpm heads on DD....In fact if it werent for the larger valves they showed better than the rpm heads.
