what he meant by the breather oil cap is that the oil cap on a 300 has a breather hose on top of it that runs back to the air cleaner, if u run multiple carbs you can't use the same breather set up. now as far as the whole torque and power issue, one thing that has to be remembered is that while the 302 and the 300 are close in actual cubic inches, the 300 has more cubic inches per cylinder.

Bigbrown I appreciate your extra input. I do love the 300 but I never realized it was such a difficult motor to modify for more performance. Call me a dimwit but I figured since a carburetor is a wet system unlike fuel injection that once you were off idle the flow would start to even itself out since the valves open only for x amount of time and allow y amount of fuel/air in. I'm still checking into the emissions issue. Most mechanic shops these days doing the inspections are run by young men some younger than my truck. I could easily sneak a 4 barrel by if I hook up all the vacuum lines, the air pump, and the EGR(block it off underneath if that is what makes more power) and then put a factory style breather cap on it. It does happen very often but there are some places in Virginia that do inspect for emissions.
