Well, we just got back from our summer vacation. And I am very happy with the performance of my '95 shortie. We drove over 4,000 km through prairies and mountains without a problem. Best of all, I got 26 mpg out of her. She was a little slow climbing Rogers Pass Summit in B.C. Canada, but other than that it was great!
Well it is sure sounds nice to hear good news about stars that make through mountains,Myself I intend to go out there with my star, only problem is my tranny seal leaks when under load in hot weather then doesn't leak until god knows when.I will try to keep you posted and my fingers crossed until I get to B.C.By the way love this sight it has been very helpful to me,so guys keep the letters rolling!
Last year we drove from Southern California, along the Pacific Coast all the way to Vancouver, then through British Columbia and then on to the Yukon. From there we took the AlCan highway (at Watson Lake) to Haines, Alaska. For three glorious weeks, we did nothing but camping and sightseeing. It was breathtakingly beautiful up there. It added 7500 miles to our van, but we didn't have any trouble climbing hills, even loaded up with 2 adults, 4 kids and all the camping gears. Since our van didn't have a roof rack, I had to improvise to put all the camping gears on top of the van. The trouble is, the kids want to do it again this year, and I'm out of steam I'm planning on taking longer next time around, and maybe throw in some fishing along the way, once the oldest kid is old enough to share driving chore
shel you've still got lots of BC to see
mojo where all are you going to when you're out here?
My son is in Vancouver and my sister was in Golden, went through Revelstoke to get to Golden.Boy is it beautiful out there, also saw Whistler also went to Nanimo.Haven't really set down my hat yet but will keep you guys posted.

Hi Mojo Hobo here
Boy am I happy to here that,it will be my first time in a star.Heard so many scary stories about A4ld trannys and have a problem in extreme heat losing fluid through front seal and magically stopping on its own.Guess it could be worse it doesn't do it all the time, keep ypu posted.
copper did you take the Alcan from Dawson Creek up to the Yukon or Highway 37?
Dave,
Unfortunately we didn't have time for that, since I was the only one driving. I couldn't sleep while my wife was driving, so I drove the entire trip. We didn't go by the way of Dawson Creek, even though I wish we had. We went by Prince George, up to the Glacier Highway (It's called the Stewart Highway, if my memory hasn't failed!). The Glacier Highway was actually a side trip since we had to go back out to head for Watson Lake. At the West end of the Glacier Highway was a little American town, Hayden or something similar (I forgot). It was kind of funny to have to cross border into a US town that does not accept American money The rational was that there is no bank and they must only accept Canadian money
Anyway, we got on the Alcan highway at Watson lake, so we missed the major part from Dawson Creek to Watson Lake. I plan to include that part the next time we go up there. My other three brothers have promised to leave their wife and kids home to go fishing for a couple of weeks up there with me, so we'll see.
copper, I live in Terrace which is about an hour from the turnoff to Hwy37 which is the one you took to Stewart and Hyder Alaska. The scenery along the way is awesome.
Hyder is a pretty interesting little place.
You can get "hyderized" there. At the one bar they have a drink that if you can finish it you get to keep the glass. I guess it's pure grain alcohol.
My mom and sister went to Stewart/Hyder last year and in Hyder they had to stop and wait for a horse that was on the road. They stopped, he came up to the car and stuck his face in the window to see if they had anything to eat. My sister gave him a bun or something and that seemed to be good enough. He ate it and then got off the road so they could get past.
The movie Insomnia with Robert Williams and Al Pacino was filmed in Stewart a couple years ago.
Well since I dont fish.......I know, I know........I'll have to just tell you where everyone goes
There are lots of tourists in town right now for fishing.
