gauge ranges

I need some help picking the correct gauge ranges for my 04 F250 6.0L.

Voltmeter--12 or 24? I know it's a 24 volt system but sometimes the electronics are stepped down to 12.

Oil pressure gauge range 80 or 100?

Boost gauge range---up to 30 or 60---running Predator

"Normal Engine Operating Temperature"

"Normal Tranny Temperature"

and does anyone know of gauges to replace the OEM indash that are just glorified idiot lights so I can replace the indash units with truly functional gauges and pillar pod the gauges that I want to add (boost, pyro, voltmeter)?

System is 12 volt

The system is 12 volt all the way. The two 12 volt batteries are used in parallel for added amperage for cold starts. The only guage I know of that is an "idiot light" in operation on the dash is the oil pressure. It is just activated to a point just above the half way indication - by a switch that closes at 7psi of oil pressure. When the oil pressure fluctuates there is no indication on the gauge - it will just go to "zero" if the engine oil pressure is less than 7psi.

As for the other gauges -there have been many threads with information on the acceptable ranges - you can do a "search" on the 6.0 forum for the key words such as "boost" or others that you want to see. Good luck - I am still looking for an oil pressure gauge solution for my 04 PSD.

You will need an oil pressure gage of around 150 Pounds. Cold, my pressure at idle is 80 PSI. If I drive it before it is fully warm the pressure will be off my 100 psi gage, probably above 120 PSI.
My Boost tops out around 35 PSI You will need the 60 PSI gage.
Auto Meter sells good gages and has the pods to match. I put mine on the dash and steering colum because I wanted to keep the grab handle. Check out my gallery for the pods I made from old gage mounts and 2" plastic pipe.

Hey Choctaw, I finally got off my behind and put the gauges in my truck with the dashmount gauge pod I bought for $42. Tim I know I said I would post it so here it is. And no, I have not put the Banks Chip in yet but as soon as I do I will dyno it for all of you. It is still sitting in my living room in the box.

I really like that dash mount set up. Clean. Good job. Maybe one of these days I'll add guages.

That is a good looking dash mount - for those of us who have the grab handles and don't want to give them up. Is that the one from Banks?

I got it from Banks. All of the other ones I found required that you drill a hole in the dash or let your wires show. This one provided a spot to run everything which I liked. Also, since I was buying the Six Gun anyway, the gauges are electronic and plug right into the computer. Simple install except for drilling for the Pyro sensor which really is not that hard, it just takes more time.

That's a sharp looking setup and one I'll have to consider! I recently viewed someone's gallery pics (FTE member, I think) showing a 3-gauge pod mounted below the dash near the driver's right leg looking up at the driver....you know, below the "recess" and to the left of the "hook", where the dash curves inwards slightly. That's one nice looking setup too, but I forgot to mark the site and can't seem to find it again! I've been searching for days. If anyone out there knows the gallery or the sort of pod I'm describing, I'd love to hear from you!

Dieseldriver,

Is this the gauge pod you were looking for?

Please check with Motorhaven (sponsor of this site) first because they can get Autometer products for you. I put in the picture just so that you could see it.

I was searching the other day, and I found a pod that bolts in place of the useless panty-hanger hook

If I happen to run across it again, I will post the link on here. It looked pretty cool.

That looks really cool. I have a stick though so I would not have been able to use that setup as well. Plus I like gauges at my eye level.

How many gauges on that one? I only want a pyrometer.

I believe they had them in 2 and 3 gauge versions. You really should probably get a boost gauge; I am wishing now that I would have had one. Im still looking for the link to the pod, I know its around here somewhere and I have yet to find it.
