Actually have "heard" that there is very little diff between the stock Donaldson filter and aftermarket....
Have been told by the dealers that an air filter mod will void warranty....
BUT Choctaw Bob got 12 HP more than me with a stock Exhaust and the K&N then I did with a full turbo back and the stock filter....
I put the airaid on my 03 and noticed a difference and have it on my 04 and it only helped marginally. I did get an increase of 5mpg with the airaid, predator and latest flash combined--mostly from the predator update and ford flash. My only concern was that I noticed that the coolant reservoir pukes into the airaid box if it overflows. Happened to me for the first time coming back from Austin, but I ran it extremely hard for an extended time and I'm SURE the dealer topped off the antifreeze when I had it in for service because they left my brake fluid reservoir lid loose when they checked it and I have that mess to clean up too
I just installed Airaid on our '04 6.0L. Very clean setup. Every thing fit very well.

From what I was told:
its not a function of "will it work", but the necessity to keep debris out of the engine. This is supposedly only with the 6.0's due to the different turbo, which sucks a lot more air than the 7.3's. I was told that anything that let more air in than the stock filter on the 04 6.0's will dust the engine.

Is this wrong?
Filtration is the issue here on the dusting of the turbo. The Donaldson filter is pretty good. I am not yet convinced that the aftermarkets are better at filtration. At least I have not yet seen independent studies to verify it. I am staying with the stock (Donaldson) filter.
