Overheating problem
first time this year & my temp ga. went up & check engine light came on, it did this w/the heater on also. Is this the classic thermostat faliure? The antifreeze was spraying out w/the engine still running.
I know this question may seem stupid to ya'all, but my last truck was a '83 Chevy & was a lot simpler to work on (no AC, SOHC, etc.). I was
thinking maybe the waterpump, but haven't notice any pinging or any
other noise. This problem was sudden., Thanks for any info.
Thermostat is most likely 195 degree. You can take a candy thermometer (if your wife will let you borrow it) and check the water temp in radiator. If temp guage is thru the roof and water temp is much cooler, replace the thermostat. Not too tough, just got to hold your mouth right at times.

but I just keep reading these "horror" stories about repairs. I've had
my '98 for just about a year (bought off the original owner) & have
spent $2100 already. This was a "company car", the owner was an Insurance adjuster. My SUV only has 55,000 mi,'s and I still have that
damn grinding noise from the driver's side front wheel that NO ONE can
seem to find. Mechanic said to keep driving it & see if it breaks or
get's worse, Ford mechanic say's it's the transfer case!
problem, but w/all the complex components in these vehicles ya gotta
be an Engineer to work on 'em. I sure wished I hadn't sold that '83
Chevy truck!
