97 4.6 stalling

I got the truck for $2600 bucks so I was expecting it to have some issues...It was fine when we got it then we put an air filter kit on it and stored it for a month with the battery disconnected. We started to drive it yesterday and it idles fine in park and neutrel but when you put it in drive and reverse it stalls,, it doesnt turn the check engine lite on eather? Any Ideas? Im completely new to the trucks!

Hi and welcome to the forum

I would suspect a sticking IAC (Idle Air Control) valve. this is pretty common.
