Talking Great Mileage!!!

I recently checked the mpg on my 03 6.0 X and ended up with 21 mpg at 65 mph over a 220 mile drive with some stops and starts but mostly highway. Checked both the overhead idiot panel and the old fashioned method. Since I drive about 40,000 miles per year this costs me $3,217.00 at $1.69 per gallon for diesal. If I had purchased a gas unit my costs would have been $5,507.00 per year at $1.79 per gallon for gas. I'm saving $190.00 per month on fuel costs by buying the 6.0 diesal. Might be a way to show the wife a good value in buying a new diesal x if you have an older gas unit. No offense to the gas guys and if you don't do a lot of miles this argument starts to get a little thin but the wife doesn't need to know that.

I just got back from a trip down to southern Cali. I live in SLC UT and got down to Bakersfield CA before stopping for gas. I was doing about 70mph 2000rpm. I filled up with about 30 gallons and did about 700 miles. That comes out to 23 mpg. Whats funny is that my uncle followed me in his new Toyota minivan and when we got back, we totaled up the cost of fuel for the week down in Cali and he was more then me by $120.

By the way, I've got a 2001 7.3 PSD with now 47,000 miles on the tach...
