My fiance bought me a new sub for by birthday... got an amazing deal (I picked it out and showed her what to buy...)
MB Quart Premium 10" sub...
Then I was at circuit city and got yet another amazing deal on an Alpine MRD-M300 mono amp.
So, my plan is to put bass blockers (probably 200Hz) inline with all 4 door speakers. (Boston 6x8's in the rear and JBL 5.25" components in the front) then run the amp and sub to handle bass in the 21 to 300Hz range.
Dont know if you will like a sub playing that high, but if you like it, thats all that matters. Might want to try something in the 80-100 Hz range and go from there.
As long as you doesnt leave a hole between the crossover and the bass blockers. i figured 80-100 because IMO, asking the door speaks to do 50 and up is kind of a stretch. The sub can cover the upper end (60-100Hz)better then the 5.25"s, and the 5.25"s can take over from there.
Best way is an adjustable crossover for both and tune to your own personal tastes, but I think 100Hz would be a good starting point.

Im sorry.......30-50 assuming the amp has a 24 db slope. Which would bring you closer to 80 on the roll off.
Thanks for the advice guys. I think I'll go with the 100Hz blockers.
My amp has about a billion settings on it (it's the Alpine digital V12), so I'm sure I can tune it pretty good...
I have a panasonic HU that powers up to 50Wx4 max, around 22 rms I believe.
I installed some boston accoustics 6x8's and I just can't get them to hit.
Every review I read on line says that have awesome bass response...
Is it not realistic to expect an aftermarket head unit to drive these?
At low volumes, the speakers do sound amazing... crystal clear... but I can get no boom!
Does anyone get boom out of their 6x8's are do you rely solely on a sub?
Thanks...
I didn't know Boston Acoustic even built 6x8s.
Their lowest end 6x9s are rated 12-120w so even if your Panasonic put out 50w consistantly you'd still be supplying less than half of what the speakers can handle.
Without substantial power going in you'll never get substantial sound coming out.
