It gets it signal from the postive terminal of the coil. The only way it can do that is if the wire coming of the coil is messed up thus reducing the spark going to the plugs. So check to make sure that the wire is secured on the postive side of the tach and also that the wire isn't grounding out.
Sounds like you might have a bad coil, or ignition module.
Everything electronic is pretty much brand new.

The only things I haven't replaced are the TPS, map sensor(does it have one?), and o2 sensors
BTW, no air pump or cats or ather emmisions parts on this truck except the EGR valve.
I have however noticed several bad grounds throughout the entire truck, so I think next thing will be to redo all the grounds I can find to see if that may eleminate the problem. I hadn't noticed the problem ill a few days ago when i was told I had no reverse lights by the inspection guy(safety only). I have been fighting the cold idle/die out problem for several months now.
