Climate Control

It seems that my climate control varies tremendously when it starts to get hot outside. The comfortable range seems to be off by at least 6 degrees. The bigger issue is that when in cooling mode it comes blasting out from the front vents only and gets too cold too quickly. Is this whats supposed to happen in cool mode on auto or should the cold air come out through all of the vents, i.e. floor, defrost, dash fronts? I understand that this can be overidden by pushing floor vents or something else but I like having it on auto mode.

That's pretty much the way mine works, too. I still like it better than having to mess with the buttons all the time but it could work better. The auto system in my 01 Chevy HD2500 worked better, IMO. None of the blasting air stuff and it seemed to need less tweaking of the temp control.

I've used climate control in a Navigator, town car, taurus and my brand new 'X (delivered 2 days ago). IMHO, Ford's climate control is only about 90% there. It's superior to having to adjust a manual system, but it seems to fall down in the "margin".

When my setpoint is above the temperature outside by more than 20 degrees F, I find that 72-ish is the right setting. When the setpoint is near the outside temp (19 below setpoint to 5 above setpoint), 70-ish is the right temp setting. When the setpoint is more than 5 degrees F below the outside temp, 68 is right for me.

Having test driven the GM system, I feel the part they fall down on is the estimation of moving air on the occupant. Ford seems to (maybe for efficiency) blow it's coldest air at low volume (for instance) ... which I find very uncomfortable. I would find slightly warmer air at a slightly higher speed more comfortable.

I set mine at 71 in the summer and 73 in the winter, that makes twice that I touched since Ive owned it. When the X has been baking in the parking lot all day and is 120+ inside I WANT IT TO BLAST. Jeb, did anything work right on your X? What did you decide?
