Do codes go away ??

By CEL comes on and stays on for a few cycles, then goes off for a few cycles, then comes back on. Are the codes storedeven when the light is off ? Does it autmoatically turn the light off after X number of start-ups, or does the light go away when the bad input to the computer goes away ?

Although the light may go out the code is still stored. You can delete the codes by disconnecting your battery for 20 minutes. The light will usually go off if the sensor begins to pick up correct information. such as a 02 sensor that detected a rich or lean mixture, which has somehow remedied. However, I would still have the code read to find out what the problem is. Probably something simple.

From the relevant and not-so-relevant-but-still-entertaining comments, I guess the computer stores the old code until it is erased by cutting power or by re-setting it with the scanner [which i knew], and the light goes off when the faulty input goes away rather than on some pre-set number of start cycles [which i did not know], correct ??

So what the Heck is " slow response" of O2 sensor ?? I understand the low and the high, but slow response ?? Do I have fat lazy O2 sensors that can't quite keep up or what ??

From the Service Manual:
The HEGO Monitor checks the HO2S Sensor frequency and amplitude. If during testing the frequency and amplitude were to fall below a calibrated limit, the test will fail.

Possible Causes:
Contaminated HO2S sensor.
Exhaust leaks.
Shorted /open wiring.
Improper fueling.
MAF sensor.
Deteriorating HO2S sensor.
Inlet air leaks.

Or put your O2 sensors on a low carb diet
