I own a 93 explorer. My center console's armrest bracket broke (whose hasn't?) and I bought a reinforced replacement bracked. However, I can't locate the four bolts that hold the bracket into the center console. Does anyone have the specs on these bolts or know where I can get replacements?
The best way to do this is to move the driver and passenger seats all the way forward. Then pull the lever and let the seats tilt all the way forward too. Look at the very rear of the console and there will be a oval shaped plastic cap. To remove the plastic cap, get a fine tiped screwdriver and pop it out. Inside there will be two bolts to remove on each side. The bolts are a standard size. Take out the old armrest and replace it with the new one. You do not need new bolts, you can reuse the old ones. Just reinstall the bolts and pop the caps back in. Your done.
I should have been more specific. I /lost/ the original bolts. The bracket broke some time ago, so I removed the whole thing to get rid of the jagged plastic piece that I kept impaling myself on. I read a description of how to replace the bracket, and the author referred to them as "8 mm" bolts. Can anyone confirm/expand on this?
First try a junkyard. When i replaced mine i think someone said that the same armrest was made from 91-94 so when you ask if the yard has a explorer make sure to ask for those different years. This weekend i will remove one of these bolts and give you the dimentions. If all else fails call a ford dearlership.
