Okay, guys. I'm bringing this topic straight to the experts:
One of my personnel is in need of a vehicle so I start looking online for cheap ones- of course my search starts with Fords- and I find a 1987 Bronco, 300, 4x4 for only $500!! I call the guy and he says the truck has something wrong with the fuel pump. Goes on to tell me that that model has two fuel pumps and the engine is not getting fuel because of the fuel pump. Can someone tell me if this is/ was a common problem for that particular Bronco, and is there an easy fix? If this young lady doesn't want the truck, I may go get it myself!!
There are 2 pumps. My in-tank pump just went out after 240,000 miles but the other one under the drivers seat on the rail has gone out about 3 time over the years. If you get the pumps from Ford, it would be less than $200. May not even be the pumps. Could be the relay or the eec power relay, the tfi module or even wiring in the engine compartment. All of those things have caused mine to do the same as you describe.
So, fellas, I want re-direct my original post. I have been reading alot about how good this 300I-6 engine is/was. Do you all agree with that? So, if you had the opportunity to buy this Bronco (1987) that has the fuel pump issue- as far as I know the rest of the engine is good, the guy said it turns over, just doesn't get fuel- do you buy it for $500? Or does this seem too good to be true?
Personally, I would probably buy it for $500. Worse case scenario, you part it out and make more than you have in it. As long as the engine is not bad, you could have it running for less than a few hundred $$$'s.
Had roughly the same problem today..... The EEC relay was causing the Fuel pump relay to not energize. Was chasing ghosts for an hour untill I figured out that the relay was internally broken and sending power to the wrong pin
You never know..........
i have 1992 Eddiae Bauer Bronco, everything fine until today tried to start it and it cranks fine but doesnt start, i dont hear the fuel pump working, tried to find fuel pump relay based on a search in this forums but no luck, where is it, opened the motor fuse box but no diagram, only "refer to users manual", but i dont have it, anyone know which relay is it, it has about five relays but dont know which one is it? hope anyone can help me
the fuel pump relay is under the hood driverside behind the air filter box. you will see the eec test connector then there are three relays, the fuel pump relay is the one in the center.
