Does anyone kow if there is a recall or repair notice on the 2000 Explorer transmission? My son's Explorer, 43,000 miles, yesterday the truck would not go into reverse. The computer says there is nothing wrong so they thnk it is internal. However he is past his warrenty and can't afford a large repair bill. If there was a problem with these transmissions it might help him get it paid for.
hey,
i have a 2001 explorer sport with about 47700 miles. the car has been driven alot but very well maintained. i have had the transmission serviced twice in the past year. i took it in because the transmission was slipping a bit and figured it needed a little tune up, at first i was told that it was "normal" that the transmission slips a little (which i found quite odd) the next day i got a call from the dealership saying that i needed a whole new transmission. it seems ridiculous that a 2001 model car even with 48000 miles would need a new transmission. i'm looking for people that had the same problem to see if i might get some kind of case together. also check out blueoval.com for some useful information.
looks like we're in the same boat
Just a question, I know my 98 Explorer calls for Mercon V fluid only. Are you sure when they serviced your transmission that they used the correct fluid?
