ford explorer 1994
>start. Explorers have a noticable fuel pump whine when you

>After I replaced the relay, I have not had another problem.
>Try replacing the relay with a new one (about $7 at Ford)and
>see if you can hear the pump. If not, check the fuel

>not, then the fuel pump is not pumping for whatever reason.
>Try checking the voltage at the fuel pump to see if any is

>there is a break in the wiring somewhere. Happy hunting...
Thanks for that I will go looking, but don't think it is the relay as we have swopped them round once and although it then started it only started the once so we will have to look at the fuel pump and the circuit see if that fixes it.. it started great yesterday, but went to start to day and although I did hear the fuel pump come on it started then stopped immediately did that three times then wouldn't even turn over (didn't hear the pump them times) I'm very confused!!
I have a 1994 explorer 4.0 it decided the other week that it didn't want to start, I waited a few minutes and tried agian and it started it carried on doing this intermittently for a few weeks, then last week it decided not to start at all.. we have changed the plugs, wires, air filter, and the fuel filter a few weeks back, then the crankshaft sensor and the coil last week. but it still does it doesn't matter if it's cold or hot if it doesn't want to start it will not, we have got it to start once by swapping the fuel pump relay but that only worked once, we have noticed that if it isn't going to start then we don't hear the fuel pump click when you turn the keys to where just all the lights are on, yesterday we also noticed that the check engine light was also not coming on when this happened, now today it has started several times O.K can anyone help find out what the heck is wrong with it?? I'm due to go on a long drive to new york cannot take it if we canot figure this problem out..i'm about ready to shot the thing dead!!

Also you said that it "would not turn over". That indicates a dead battery. Is that what you meant - that the engine won't crank?
