Still here.

Generally when I hear people use the term "riff raff" it is a condescending reference to those of less fortunate means in life. I loathe both class and caste associations and therefore found the reference offensive.

On the Outer Banks you willl find those who were born there, those who vacation there and those who moved there for the lifestyle. Most of the latter two tend to view the former first with disdain and a general lack of respect and think of them as riff raff. There are also the folks who just like to cruise the beach and hang out because they can' afford to do anything else - you know - riff raff. They are the ones who will stop and help you dig your truck out as the others pass you by.

I don't know who is - or who isn't riff raff. Lot's of times it seems that alot of regular, decent people get called riff raff because they are down on their luck or not as fortunate as others. I would not group them with those who have criminal intent.

Congratulations on your new house. Have fun and drive safely. Also, be careful as the remote nature of the homes in Corolla make them prime and inviting targets for crime.

I'm offended by these comments as much as you were about the riff raff comment. Your assumption is that these people are where they are in life because of luck or lack there of. Which also follows that people who do have the means to acquire what they want, have the means because of luck. I would be one of those people and can assure you luck had nothing to do with it. Hard work and intelligent choices are what put me where I am today. Whether you accept it or not, everyones position in life is a culmination of all the choices they've made (no matter how insignificant you think those choices are) over your life time.

"Use wisely your power of choice."

Spartan....you just need to chill!!! You sound like the type of person who takes everything personally...no matter how general the statement is. Get a clue....not everything is about you!!! It is a shame that you have turned a simple question about an excursion into your personal outlook on life. Let it rest!!!!!!!

ExFamily - I am chilled, I have a clue and I let it rest in a previous post, but since you seem not to have noticed - my clue is about treating everyone with respect whether they have a beach house, an Excursion or nothing but the shirt on their back and a ten year old junker car.

The term "riff raff" is in fact an insult - check your Webster's dictionary - rabble, refuse, rubbish. It is gentile reference for low income / class individuals. It reeks of arrogance and elitism and my position on the issue is not about me, I can assure you. It is about how people refer to others in slanderous tones without any knowledge of their character - just as you did to me in your post.

Is everyone who drives on the beach and who doesn't own a home in Corolla a criminal, or riff raff? Certainly not. I'm not a democrat either, so figure that one out.

And while I'm at it - psdwannabe - why don't you stop by the local homeless shelter and give all the folks there a lecture on why " everyones position in life is a culmination of all the choices they've made ". I'm sure the out of work and desperate people there will appreciate your brilliance. You could even start your own motivational program for low income single mothers to explain to them why their predicamant has little to do with sociological patterns or fathers who won't pay child support and everything to do with their one decision to bring a new life into the world.

Why don't you join me in some volunteer work with the elderly and bed ridden cancer patients who cannot afford hospice care and while we're there you can tell them all about your hard work and brilliant choices. I'm sure they will be as unimpressed as I am.

jdadamsjr - you are correct - it is a truck site and further discourse regarding my comments and those of others are innappropriate. I am done with this topic.

As I stated before to V10_X - Congratulations on your new home in Corolla. Have fun and drive safely. I apologize for screwing up your beach driving thread. I will start a new one for you and be the first to answer any questions you have.
