Running Board Suggestions??

I am getting ready to order an 04 SCrew. I am going to get the Black with the Arizona Beige as the two tone color. I'm trying to decide on the Black Platform Running Boards or the Bright Polished Tubular Running Boards. Not sure which would look better. Anybody have any opinions on it? Or some pictures of either of them.

Thanks,

Brett

I have the same exact color combination in a supercrew format. I am also looking into getting some running boards and have been looking at the Westin Platinum Series either in the Chrome plated stainless or the black painted stainless, but I cant make up my mind either. My local line-x dealer said they have been coating the Luverne steps with line-x and guys have loved them, so that is a third option. There is a guy from Florida that has pics in his album of a stainless nerf bar on the same truck we have, I have attached the link below. I am leaning towards going with the black or line-x covered steps. I will post pics of my new 04 by friday.

I have also thought about going with the regular black running boards (non tubular) because I dont want a large gap between the tubes and the bottom of the truck, I will have to go to my line-x dealer who also sells accessories and hold the different steps up to the truck before I can make up my mind.

I thought the same thing. But to do that I'd have to order the truck without either because they don't want to let me order the black nerf bars from the factory with that color combination.

am going to go with black nerf bars on my 04 fx4 scab. the color of my truck is a dark grey (cant remember the correct color name) and i think the black nerf bars would go well with the truck.

gmcpluso3,

I've seen that on a few other trucks, it looks great with that color.

I have an 04 Screw Lariat 4x4 in Medium Wedgewood Blue and Arizona Beige. I put a set of Starboards fiberglass boards on this truck. I also had Starboards on my 01 Screw Lariat. They are painted to match the Arizona Beige and for looks and style they are hard to beat. They have pictures for most applications on their website. While these types of running boards don't look as rugged or as "off road" as nerf bars, I find that 95% of my miles are on road and essentially the truck is used like a car for those miles. Although I make my living as a lawyer I am an avid outdoorsman and hunter when it comes to recreation. In this respect I use and need the 4x4 feature but I don't intend to get this nice and expensive of a machine in a position to damage fiberglass boards. Don't get me wrong, I think nerf bars (whether black or chrome) look great on the new Fords but color coded fiberglass boards are another option that can give your truck a unique and distinctive look while providing great utility as steps. Just my $ .02 worth. I am sure you will like and enjoy whatever you put on your machine.

I put full length aftermarket tubular bars on my SCAB - I like the extra length for looks and they let me step up and reach things in the front part of the bed. I have a pic in my gallery - not great pic, but you can see how they look in full length. They are adjustable for distance from truck (side to side) and height to close the gap.

I love the black platform running boards. Below is a photo of mine. They keep ALL of the rocks off the side of my truck. Put the mud flaps on and you can't beat it. Some people say they're ugly, but that's their opinion. Mine is - they look great on the lariat, blend in, don't detract from the look and they are completely plastic so they WON'T ever rust. Plastic you say?...does that mean they are weak? NO...they don't give at all when I step on them. Very solid. I'm just not into all the chrome bling bling. Lots more pictures here: http://www.pbase.com/kygarden/truck&page=all

Any chance you could post a better photo of your tube steps? Also, what brand did you buy?

Thanks, Jason

lariatf150,

Thats a great set of pics. Very nice truck, it's about identical to what I'm going to order except I want the SCrew and the Captains seats. I do like the looks of those running boards though. Thanks

Smile Westin Lighted Runningboards

I had the Westin lighted running boards installed on my 04 Lariat screw. Like them very much.
