i had what felt like a transmission problem* with my '92 f150 about 2 weeks ago and i took it to a shop where they said that there were a couple of codes that the computer spat back. the codes are - 629 (torque converter?) and 634 (manual lever pos sensor?). the shop called the next day to say that they found these error codes and went to replace the parts indicated but before that they checked the wiring in that area and found that there were dirty connections so before getting into the parts, they cleaned the wires and their connections and tested the truck. it ran fine and continued running fine until yesterday when it gave me the same problem (described below).
can these parts be replaced fairly easily? i'm thinking of going about myself.
* while slowing down to come to a stop at a traffic light, the truck started idling uneven and ridiculously low. it also felt like it was "bucking". i made it to my destination but after shutting the truck off, restarting it and then trying to put it in drive, it just cut off. this happened for the next three times. it would start and as soon as i dropped it into drive it would die. in order to get it going, i had to drop it into first gear then second and then finally i could put it into drive and as long as i didn't stop it was alright.
